Al Gore is in San Francisco for last few days and got the news today morning. I heard it on NPR on my way to work. He decided to donate the prize money,750K $ to a bay area (palo alto, to be specific) based environmental organization.
I've been a long time supporter of the drive to protect and preserve the environment and spread the word around. I dont belong to either right or left wing and as much as i like Al Gore for his contribution to the cause of environment, I do not fully support him for political reasons, even though I agree he would be good candidate as next United Nations Secretary-General.
Well in all this one thing is clear - we (the environmentalists) aint not fighting for no cause; and announcement of Nobel Peace Prize to Al Gore is a stamp that the world now recognizes environmental misadventure as a biggest threat to the existence of mankind. Not only are we destroying it for ourselves, future generation but also for billions of other life forms who supposedly have the same stake on this planet as us.

Am watching the Live Earth concert while writing this Blog, the concerts are live in Australia, Japan, China, Germany, UK, US-DC, South Africa, US-NY and Brazil. Its a good way to make people aware of the challenges our environment is facing and show them the ways on how to reduce their carbon foot prints.
We don’t have to be a superhero to save this planet. A small contribution by each of us can make a big difference. To start with, take a small step, ask urself, if you really know the problem, if not, search on the keyword "Global Warming".
Next step would be to realize that there's something you can do, read http://www.climateprotect.org/ , http://www.asimpleswitch.com/ , then calculate your carbon footprints http://www.earthlab.com/liveearth .
Now that you are fully aware of the problem and realize that ur the part of the problem, make a pledge http://liveearthpledge.org/msn.php and please be upto it.
Our responsibility does not end here, now we have a daunting task to make others aware of this problem and engage them in the program by making them realize that they are the part of problem too.

Most Arctic sea ice could disappear by 2040
A paper from the National Center for Atmospheric Research predicts that the erosion of the sea ice in the Arctic could begin to rapidly accelerate starting in 2025. By 2040 or 2045, roughly 80 percent of the ice in the Arctic could be gone.

Plastic Oceans
Far out in the pacific ocean between California and Hawaii, there are huge islands of garbage swirling together into ever-growing "cyclones" of debris. One island of trash is twice the size of the state of Texas. "The ocean's in trouble, [therefore] we are in trouble. Whether we live in Illinois or the Bay Area here in California, we live and die by the ocean," says senior scientist at the Ocean Conservancy in Santa Cruz, Wallace J. Nichols.

Another sign, believe it or not, I could see it coming and think most of us did. "Global Fishing Collapse" is in NEWS and people are talking about taking measures to reduce Fishing, as in one news article someone wrote, “When humans get into trouble they are quick to change their ways, we still have rhinos and tigers and elephants because we saw a clear trend that was going down and we changed it. We have to do the same in the oceans.” well I do appreciate the thought and believe that would help, but I don’t see it as a solution, shouldn’t we think beyond obvious and stop acting like ignorant, aint that why God gave us BRAINS. I guess we do understand that the real threat to Oceanic life comes from billions of gallons of pollutants we are draining down in oceans. Are we ever gonna bring it up and talk about it or will we wait till the day oceans are polluted enough to not support any form of life?
I hope Nimo is not the last one left for me to show my grandkids what fish was like.

I need to admit.. Am a Bob Dylan fan.. Listen to all his songs and u would know why, there aint too many singers out there to raise ongoing socio-political issues in common man's words and put them in beautiful lyrics like he does.
So why am I talking about Bob Dylan on Environmental blog, that’s cause not many people (atleast that’s what I think) know that Big Yellow Taxi was originally written by Bob Dylan but was never sung by him, I would would write a few lines of that song for my readers to know the depth of his songs. So here it goes…

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique, and a swingin' hot spot
Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you got 'til it's gone. They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
They took all the trees, and put em in a tree museum.
And they charged the people a dollar and a half to see them
Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you got 'til it's gone. They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
Hey farmer, farmer, put away your DDT. I don't care about spots on my apples,Leave me the birds and the bees.. Please...
Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you got 'til it's gone. They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
Hey now, they paved paradise to put up a parking lot

This time it was North Korea, and another nuclear bomb shook the earth with an intensity of 3.2 on richter scale. We know how delicate this world is and how important it is for us to keep it balanced; we see the warning signs and yet ignore them. Who should we blame for this, North Korea, US, Terrorists or dictatorship? I would say none, its us, you and I, all of us. We have made this world so insecure that we are on the verge of destroying it ourselves one step at a time. Ever thought how we would answer next generation when they’ll live to survive the destruction left behind by us (You and I). I would encourage each one of us to sit down for any one day in our life and think about what we got from nature and what we have given back and if we are even a little ashamed of what we are doing to this planet, let’s take an oath to make an effort, however big or small, to save this mother earth.
